Kakishima Kaido Cycling Route Record

It seems like I accidentally pressed the pause button when I was trying to check the map and it made the record for Kurahashijima skipped…

An explanation for Kashima Kaido

Passing through Kure to Kurahashijima, Noumishima, Etajima, a cycling route that connects to Kirikushi Harbor of Etajima.

If you go through the blue line (recommended cycling route) it will be around 70 kilometers run.

Couple of places in Etajima has ferry routes that are commissioned which can make you do a shortcuts.

To Kakishima Kaido! We will start from Hiroshima Station.

There are lot of ferry routes to Etajima which is the center Kakishima Kaido.

This time, from Hiroshima Harbor (Ujina), we will ride the ferry that connects Mitaka Harbor of Etajima and go across to Etajima.

To Hiroshima Harbor (Ujina), you will have to ride the tram which is in front of the Hiroshima Station.

Arrived to Hiroshima Harbor (Ujina).

Passage in between, the train station and the ferry terminal are just right beside it.

Rode the ferry that goes from Hiroshima Harbor to Etajima.

The next I will ride is the ferry to Etajijma (Mitaka Harbor).

To Etajima!

the ferry to Kakishima Kaido Etajijma (Mitaka Harbor)

Inside the ferry, there were place where I can stretch my legs beside the normal seats so I took there a nice rest.

It’s a 40-minute ride to Mitaka Harbor.

The Kashima Kaido Cycling starts!

Arrived to Mitaka Harbor, Etajima!

Kakishima Kaido, Mitaka Harbor, Etajima

We will starting the Kashima Kaido Cycling when you took of the ferry at Mitaka Harbor.

If you run the bicycle to Kure City, there are many oyster beds as the name “Kakishima Kaido” (Oyster Island Sea Way) says.

There are less transportations here that you could go through casually.

Kakishima Kaido main street.

If you ask the Kakishima Kaido gourmet, I recommend “Shinsen Market of Seashore”!

Lunch at “Shinsen Market of Seashore”

Around an hour passed since I started running through the Kakishima Kaido.

It’s a little early but since it’s almost lunch time, I decided to eat something.

The name of the restaurant is “Shinsen Market of Seashore

Kakishima Kaido, Shinsen Market of Seashore

I will have the takikomi rice (seasoned cooked rice) with arajiru (soup of boiled fishhead) with the view of sea.

Resuming the Kakishima Kaido Cycling, to Kure!

After satisfying my stomach, we will resuming the cycling to Kure.

I love the fact that in Kakishima Kaido information board, things about cycling and ferries and passenger ships are written very clear.

With the blue signs that are for cycling routes, there are also green signs which tells you the way to ferries.

Plus, theres an illustration of which ferry you can use to ride your bicycle with you!

It also tells you which harbor you should go for a ferry ride with your bicycle so that you can make decisions for shortcuts.

I started to see Hayase Oohashi which connects Etajima and Kurahashijima if you run through the coastlands and the streets alternatively.

Hayase Oohashi

Cross the Hayase Oohashi, and to Kurahashijima, Kure.

The view from Hayase Oohashi.

Flat roads continue in Kashima Kaido so it makes here the highest point.

The signage for cycling, the downward slope warning.

The speed goes up really fast so be careful.

You could see the industrial area beyond Kure. The finish line is almost there.

The way to Kure, the “Ondo no Seto”.

Important point of Kakishima Kaido ” Ondo no Seto “

This bridge which turned the curve and looked is “Second Ondo Bridge“.

kakishijma Kaido, Second Ondo Bridge

Crossing to Kure, “Ondo no Seto“.

So, the way to go across to Kure with bicycles, this will be a rare one.

In the blue line, it says that “The way to Kure is 50m from here then turn right”… but you won’t find any roads.

“50m away from here then turn right”

The answer is inside this shed.

This shed is “Ondo no Seto” Ferry Shed, says “If you turn right, 7km to Kure.”

Ferry of “Ondo no Seto”

It’s where you ride the ferry.

We will go across the “Ondo no Seto” with the ferry.

This “Ondo no Seto” is a very important point of transportation that the ferry from Hiroshima Prefecture or Kure to Ehime Prefecture also using it.

I also used this one when I went from Sazanami Kaido to Hamakaze Kaido.

You could see the price list inside, but you will pay the charge inside the ferry.

The price with the bicycle is 150 Yen.

It makes a roundtrip until the shore on the other side.

It was almost arriving when it passed the bridge.

In just 2-3 minutes, it arrived on the other side.

Where we are is already Kure City.

Almost Kure! The finish line for Kakishima Kaido Cycling is almost there.

Running through the industrial area.

Crossing the Ondo no Seto, Honshu starts from here.

We’re almost near the Kure Station.

The transportation here are many so you have to be careful.

Steelworks, bypass, and blue line. Such a rare view within the Sea Road.

Kure Station

If you go to the central part of Kure, you could still see the blue line but the amount of transportation doesn’t change from the urban area.

Be careful when riding!

Arrived in Kure Station!

Kure Station

And here comes the end of the whole itinerary.

I will go back to Hiroshima Station with JR Kure Line.

Kakishima Kaido Summary

If you go to the Kakishima Kaido, it’s a route where you run through the different area that goes to Noumishima, Etajima, Kurahashijima, and to Kure, the sea, the town, the industrial area.

In Kakishima Kaido, there are many places where you could enjoy the foods that you don’t have to be worried about for rest stop.

And for Hiroshima and Kure, the access for trains will become an ease because of the terminal station which makes the base of it so it’s a nice Sea Road.

And here comes the end of Kakishima Cycling!

I had really fun!
